Optimization of a smart beam for monitoring a connected inaccessible mechanical system: Application to bone-implant coupling

چکیده

This paper deals with the optimization of piezoelectric patches positioning on a beam attached to an inaccessible system. Based electro-mechanical coupling coefficients, which are calculated from mode shapes curvatures, problem is provide optimal in order target modes sensitive boundary conditions. Following theoretical description instrumented collocated patches, placement strategy proposed. lies definition utility functions, based modal weights and sensitivities, coefficient. An experimental validation method performed concrete case study corresponding real-time implant stability monitoring. A temporarily rigidly fixed during its insertion into bone cavity allow impaction by surgeon. The positions sensors optimized focus beam’s carrying information bone-implant interface, biomechanical issue being maximization stability. originality approach sensor connected maximize or minimize simultaneously amplitude several frequency response function at resonances, depending their sensitivity interface. results show very good performance proposed this paper, paving way for new applications design structures.
